There's something about old books that I am instantly drawn to. Perhaps it's the fact it's been loved before and there is so much history in it, with little notes written in the front in a calligraphic hand, or that lovely old musty smell, or maybe its the designer in me that find the covers so gorgeous. I picked up these three books, and an old map which has such lovely colours, for a few pounds at a local bookshop. I can only find the publishing dates on two of the books, of 1950 and 1971, but I'd love to know the date for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. There is an inscription in the front that says it was a christmas present in 1933. Perhaps I'll start writing in the front of my books when I'm older and give them to my grandchildren, and maybe a young girl can find it in a bookshop in the very far future and write a blog post. <3

Oh wow, so in love with this post, and completely jealous of your Alice book. It's gorgeous - really wish I could find something that wonderful in book shops by me. Inscriptions are always so lovely too! <3 xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely post! I have an old copy of Alice's Adventures, I can't remember the exact date it was published but there's a note in the front from a mother to her daughter dated Christmas 1903, so cute, and I came across it in a charity shop, bargain! I'd completely forgotten about it until I saw this post, going to dig it out later and have a look :)
